The first volume in the Rott Classics series is Eugippius’ Life of St Severinus.
The Life of Saint Severinus by the monk Eugippius is fascinating and important because it provides an eyewitness account of the end of the Roman empire in Noricum Ripense, which roughly equates to modern Austria. The overwhelming impression is one of poverty, starvation and increasing isolation. There is an English translation here.
Adrian Murdoch, the editor of the text, has blogged about Eugippius in the past. On the decline and fall of the Roman empire here and on the connection between Eugippius and the family of Romulus Augustulus, the last Western Roman emperor, here.
